Interactive Map

Come and explore the amazing geology of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. All the geological sites mentioned are included on our interactive map, but remember, if you want to visit any of them, especially those on Open Access land, you will need an Ordnance Survey map to accurately locate them and to plan your route. OS Explorer OL2 covers the Ribblesdale/Chapel-le-Dale area and copies are available to buy from our online shop.

Many of these sites are on remote hillsides and open moorland so you need to be properly prepared, correctly dressed and with the ability to navigate over open ground.

We hopefully don’t need to remind you that caves and potholes are extremely dangerous for all but the well-equipped and experienced. Show caves like Ingleborough and White Scar are great places to visit for that first underground experience and there are also lots of qualified caving instructors willing to take you exploring if you fancy something a bit more gritty.

Working quarries are obviously not publicly accessible though some have viewing platforms.
