From over 200 million years ago to the last glaciation, the geological record in the Westmorland Dales falls largely silent. Very few rocks or landforms survive from this vast period of time. To reconstruct what happened here we have to look for more subtle clues in the landscape and use evidence from elsewhere in northern England.
