Bending and Breaking

When rocks are deformed in the Earth’s crust they can be squashed, bent and cracked, forming features known as geological structures. These include cleavages, faults, fractures, joints and folds, all of which influence an area’s rocks and landscape. The Westmorland Dales contains structures of many different types and ages, ranging from tiny fractures to major faults which have influenced the shape of the landscape.
